Terms & Conditions
The terms that apply when you use Just Talk Law, Smart Legal Guidance, solicitor matching, profiles and consultation booking services.
Last updated: 4 September 20261. About these terms
These Terms & Conditions govern your use of the Just Talk Law website, Smart Legal Guidance, solicitor search and matching features, solicitor and firm profiles, consultation booking services and related platform features. By using the platform, and where required by actively accepting these terms, you agree to be bound by them.
If you are a solicitor or law firm applying for or using membership, the separate Member Terms also apply to your membership and professional use of the platform. If there is a conflict about membership-specific matters, the Member Terms take priority for those matters.
2. What Just Talk Law provides
Just Talk Law provides technology that helps people explain a legal problem, receive general information and guidance, identify potentially relevant legal areas, find participating solicitors, compare consultation options and arrange an initial consultation where appropriate.
We may use automated and AI-assisted technology as part of Smart Legal Guidance and matching. The platform is designed to make the route into legal help clearer; it is not intended to replace professional legal judgment where a solicitor is needed.
3. Smart Legal Guidance is not regulated legal advice
Information produced through Smart Legal Guidance is general information and guidance only. It may help you understand possible issues, questions to consider, documents to preserve or the type of solicitor who may be appropriate. It is not a solicitor-client retainer, does not create a solicitor-client relationship with Just Talk Law and should not be treated as regulated legal advice.
Legal outcomes depend on facts, evidence, jurisdiction, time limits and other circumstances that may not be known to the platform. You remain responsible for deciding whether to obtain advice from a qualified solicitor, particularly where there is urgency, a deadline, financial risk, court or tribunal proceedings, criminal exposure, safeguarding concerns or another serious consequence.
4. Independent solicitors and law firms
Solicitors and law firms shown on Just Talk Law are independent professionals or practices. They are not employees, agents or legal representatives of Just Talk Law. Membership, profile visibility, enhanced presentation or priority positioning on the platform does not amount to a guarantee, endorsement or representation that one solicitor is professionally better than another.
We may verify information supplied by a solicitor or firm and may use regulatory information when administering membership. However, each solicitor and firm remains responsible for maintaining any practising status, authorisation, insurance, conflicts procedures, client-care obligations and other professional or regulatory requirements applicable to them.
5. Matching, ranking and profile visibility
Just Talk Law may use information such as legal area, location, geographic coverage, availability, consultation options, membership entitlement and other platform factors to determine which participating solicitors or firms are shown and in what order.
Paid membership may provide enhanced profile presentation or priority positioning among solicitors who are otherwise eligible and relevant to the enquiry. Relevance and eligibility remain important matching factors. We do not promise that every search will display every participating solicitor or that any particular member will receive a specific volume or value of enquiries.
6. Booking a consultation
When you select a solicitor and reserve a consultation through Just Talk Law, you are using our platform to arrange that initial consultation. You must provide accurate contact and booking information and must not knowingly book using false, misleading or unauthorised details.
The solicitor or firm is responsible for the professional content of the consultation. A consultation may identify that additional information, conflict checks, identity checks, funding arrangements, client-care documents or a separate retainer are required before the solicitor can undertake further legal work.
7. The client relationship before and after the consultation
For the purposes of the Just Talk Law platform journey, the person making the booking remains a Just Talk Law platform client through the booked consultation. This describes the platform relationship and does not make Just Talk Law the person's law firm or legal adviser.
If, after the consultation, you decide to instruct the solicitor or law firm for further legal work, the ongoing retainer is directly between you and that solicitor or firm. Just Talk Law is not a party to that retainer, does not supervise the legal work, does not control the solicitor's professional judgment and does not take commission from subsequent legal fees unless a separate arrangement is expressly agreed and disclosed.
8. Consultation fees and payments
Participating solicitors may offer free or paid consultations. The price, duration and available consultation method will be shown before booking. Where payment is required, payment is collected through the payment process provided on the platform or by a payment provider acting for the platform.
Just Talk Law may retain a platform share from consultation fees under its arrangements with participating members. This does not increase the consultation price shown to you at checkout unless expressly stated.
9. Cancellations, refunds and missed appointments
If a consultation is cancelled, missed, duplicated or cannot proceed, any refund or rescheduling decision will depend on the booking circumstances, payment status and the applicable platform process. Just Talk Law may place payments or member payouts on hold while a cancellation, no-show, chargeback or refund issue is reviewed.
If you need to change an appointment, contact Just Talk Law as soon as reasonably possible through the Contact page and include your booking reference. Nothing in these terms limits any mandatory consumer rights that apply under law.
10. No guarantee of legal outcome or availability
We do not guarantee that Smart Legal Guidance will identify every legal issue, that a particular solicitor will be available, that a solicitor will accept further instructions, that a consultation will lead to a retainer, or that any legal matter will achieve a particular outcome.
Availability, pricing, practice areas, geographic coverage and member status may change. We may remove, suspend or amend profiles and platform features where reasonably required for operational, regulatory, security or quality reasons.
11. Your responsibilities when using the platform
You must use Just Talk Law lawfully and reasonably. You must not misuse the service, attempt to gain unauthorised access, interfere with security, submit malicious code, impersonate another person, harvest data, abuse participating solicitors or use the platform to facilitate unlawful conduct.
You are responsible for the accuracy of information you provide. Where information is incomplete or inaccurate, guidance and matching may be less reliable.
12. Urgent and emergency matters
Just Talk Law is not an emergency service. If there is an immediate risk to life or safety, contact the appropriate emergency service. If you are facing an imminent court, tribunal, immigration, criminal, regulatory or other legal deadline, you should seek appropriate professional assistance promptly and should not rely on an online response arriving before the deadline.
13. Liability and professional advice
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded.
Subject to those legal protections, Just Talk Law is responsible for operating the platform with reasonable care but is not responsible for the independent professional advice, acts, omissions, case handling or legal services of a solicitor or law firm. The solicitor or firm giving professional advice is responsible for that advice and for the professional relationship that follows if you instruct them.
We are not responsible for losses caused solely by information you provide being inaccurate or incomplete, by your failure to act on a known deadline, or by events outside our reasonable control. These terms do not affect rights that consumers cannot lawfully waive.
14. Website and platform availability
We aim to keep Just Talk Law available and secure, but uninterrupted or error-free operation cannot be guaranteed. We may perform maintenance, change features, suspend access to protect security or integrity, or withdraw a feature where reasonably necessary.
15. Intellectual property
The Just Talk Law name, branding, software, platform design, written platform content and other materials owned by us or licensed to us are protected by intellectual-property rights. You may use the website and its content for your own lawful use of the service, but you may not reproduce, scrape, republish, sell or commercially exploit protected platform content without permission.
16. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how Just Talk Law collects, uses, shares and protects personal information. Where an independent solicitor or firm receives information in connection with a consultation or later instruction, their own privacy obligations and privacy notice may also apply.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms & Conditions as the platform, membership model, payment arrangements or legal requirements develop. The current version will be published on this page with the date of the latest update. Where a material change affects an existing booked service or membership, we will apply it in a manner consistent with applicable law and any existing contractual rights.
18. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live. If a dispute arises, please contact Just Talk Law first so we can try to resolve it. Nothing in these terms prevents a consumer from using any court or dispute-resolution rights available to them under applicable law.
